GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT

1/4/08 - WESTFALL TWP - The Office of the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner has announced today that the Westfall Twp Vol Fire Dept, Inc is a recipient of the comined 2006-2007 / 2007-2008  Volunteer Fire Company Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program.  Our award totaled $29,485.51 and will be utilized to purchase new fire and ambulance equipment  to better serve our community.
GREENVILLE NY STRUCTURE FIRE

1/22/08 - GREENVILLE NY -  At 08:53 hrs, Fire Station was requested under mutual aid for an Engine to respond for a working structure fire on Greenville Turnpike, Orange County.  Greenville Command sounded a third alarm on arrival with fire throughout a 1 story wood frame private dwelling. 39 Engine 1 responded with a crew of 6 and was put to work on arrival assisting with overhaul. Engine 1 was back in service at 10:37.
QUICK KNOCK DOWN SAVES HOME

1/31/08 - WESTFALL TWP -  At 18:07 hrs, Both Fire Station and Squad 39 were alerted for a structure fire on Rose Lane. An update from Pike County 911 advising a working fire prompted Chief 39-2 to sound the second alarm for Box 39-02 while enroute. On arrival, units were met by the homeowner who was utilizing a garden hose attempting to control a fire in a screened in porch attached to the residence. 39 Engine 1 quickly deployed a handline and gained control of the fire limiting only minor extension to the home. All second alarm companies were cancelled and no injuries were reported. All units returned to service at 18:48 hrs.


2/1/08 - WESTFALL TWP -  Recently, we added an Incident Command Vehicle to our Fleet. The Ford Expedition will be utilized as an Command Center during all incident responses as well as a tow vehicle for the water rescue boat. This vehicle will be equipped with the following: Command & Accountability Center / Mapping & Pre-Plans / Various Firefighter Tools / Scott Air Packs / Medical Jump Bags & Oxygen / Fire Police Equipment

TRACTOR TRAILER OVER THE EMBANKMENT

2/1/08 - WESTFALL TWP -  At 11:30 hrs, Both Fire Station and Squad 39 were alerted for Tractor Trailer Accident involving a fuel spill on Interstate 84 near the 49 mile marker. 39 Engine 1 and A-399 arrived to find an 18 wheeler over an embankment into a group of trees and the uninjuried truck driver already out of the truck. One of the rigs saddle fuel tanks was ruptured leaking diesel fuel. Personnel went to work plugging the leak and containing the already split fuel. Units remained on scene providing traffic control while awaiting State Police and the Wrecker Company. All units were back in station at 14:07

HEAVY FIRE ON ARRIVAL IN THE BORO

2/13/08 - MATAMORAS BORO -  At 18:49 hrs, Fire Station 39 was requested under mutual aid into Matamoras for a working structure fire on Ave L and 3rd St. The intial request for a Tanker by 32 Command was quickly upgraded to a full response reporting heavy fire in a 2 1/2 story WF private dwelling. 39 Tanker set-up in front of the fire building supplying 32 Engine & Truck while a hydrant supply was established. Engine 1 took a hydrant off Avenue and set up in the C / D side providing handlines to the fire as well as supplying PJFD Truck 7 while Engine 2 dropped 5" from the fire to a hydrant a block away feeding 32 Truck. The bulk of the fire was knocked down rather quickly, but not before the home was heavily damaged. Thank you to 34 Tanker & Montague Engine who stood-by in Station 39 until our units were back in station at 23:00.

LARGE TREE FALLS ON A HOUSE

3/5/08 - WESTFALL TWP -  At 01:26 hrs, Fire Station 39 was alerted for Tree on a House on Mountain Ave. Units arrived to find a large tree that fell during high winds landing on the house. The home sustained moderate structural damage including holes in the roof. Firefighters provided tarps to protect the furnishings from further damage while the homeowner contacted a tree company. All units cleared at 02:52
I-84 ROLLOVER WITH ENTRAPMENT

3/12/08 - WESTFALL TWP -  At 16:00 hrs, Fire Station 39 and Squad 39 were alerted for a rollover with entrapment on I-84 at MileMarker 53. IC (39-1) arrived on scene and confirmed an SUV that had landed on its wheels in the Eastbound lanes after rolling several times through the median and that 2 occupants were entrapped. Medevac was requested to launch. Engine 2 marked on scene and went to work extricating the 2 patients with the assistance of Squad 39, Medic 401, and Medic 403 while Engine 1 established a Landing Zone in the eastbound lanes past the accident scene. Both patients were flown by Medevac to a trauma center. All units cleared the Interstate at 17:30 hrs.

BRUSH FIRE ON POINT PETER

3/24/08 - CITY OF PORT JERVIS NY -  At 13:19 hrs, 39 Tanker was requested to the scene of a large brush fire on Skyline Dr in the area of  Point Peter. Because of there are no hydrants in this area, tankers were summoned relay water up the mountain. 39 Tanker shuttled several loads of water to PJFD Engine 4 before the fire was contained. The tanker returned to service at  15:20.
